The Smurfs is a life-action CGI movie, directed by Raja Gosnell, written by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, and starring Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara, with the voice of Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Jeff Foxworthy, Paul Reubens, Alan Cumming and George Lopez. Produced by Jordan Kerner, the film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures.
This will be a life-action hybrid film of the first CGI in The Smurfs franchise. After five years of negotiations, Kerner bought the copyright in 2002 and is currently in development with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies to Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation get the film rights in 2008. Filming began on March 26, 2010 in New York. After three times to change the release date, now scheduled to be released on July 29, 2011.
Synopsis:
Lifted from a comic book by Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, aka Peyo, the Smurfs to tell about little blue creatures a serene and peaceful in their villages. Until the end of a wicked witch named Gargamel (Hank Azaria) with her cat find a hidden smurf village.
To avoid the evil plans Gargamel, the Smurfs had to flee and find a hiding place. Clumsy Smurf (Anton Yelchin) into the small cave to hide. In fact it is actually forbidden cave. Unfortunately, some other Smurf Clumsy Smurf was even followed into the cave. Previous Papa Smurf (Jonathan Winters) had warned that no Smurf who entered this forbidden cave.
Apparently the cave was like a time tunnel that takes them to another world. Up to the human world-New York. 6 karakater smurf was raised, namely Grouchy, Papa, Clumsy, Smurfette, Brainy Smurf and Gutsy are forced to travel across space and time in order to avoid a witch Gargamel and his cat Azrael.
In New York precisely in Central Park, the sixth smurf is trying to find a way out to return to their villages. Fortunately they had the protection of a husband and wife Patrick Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris) and Grace (Jayma Mays). They took refuge for a plan to get back to their villages and remain wary of attacks Gargamel who want to utilize them in order to enhance the power of evil magic.
